Almost everything in the UAE is the largest, the coolest, or the most expensive in the world. Dubai is the city of the world’s tallest buildings, the tallest Ferris wheel, and the world's largest flower garden. If not, the winner is probably not far away. The neighbouring emirate and the capital Abu Dhabi is home to the world’s fastest roller coaster and the world’s largest carpet.

Here is the list of record-breaking attractions in the UAE.

Dubai is not a city built with pedestrians in mind: the distances are long and the sun is ruthless. The options are: rent a car, take a taxi, or use public transport. Hitchhiking is illegal. Use the route search for detailed instructions on how to get to your destination.

If you think Dubai is only for shopping and lazing on the beach with a cocktail, you’ve probably never tried skydiving or flyboarding, never seen camel races, or a wrecked ship at the bottom of the sea. Here are some adventures available in Dubai: from safe and suitable for the whole family to risky and real.

For more comfortable and glamorous beach time head for numerous private beaches. Private beaches in Dubai are typically attached to shoreline hotels and are free to use for hotel guests, but outsiders can get a day pass for a fee (100–500 AED). A sunbed is usually included as well as access to a pool. Cheaper on weekdays. Beaches are open from 8–10 AM till sunset. Some private beaches throw parties after dark. Many have a Ladies Day with discounts for ladies. Prices and conditions change often, so checking and booking in advance is strongly recommended.

It takes about 1–2 hours to get from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. The reasons to go are numerous: the UAE's largest mosque, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, featuring art from Van Gogh to Ai Weiwei, the fastest roller coaster in the world and a cafe serving cappuccino topped with real gold.

During the coronavirus pandemic you must present a negative coronavirus test taken within 48 hours before your trip in order to enter Abu Dhabi. If you stay for 6 or more days you must take an additional test on the sixth day. Plan in advance: almost all visits require pre-booking.

Most of the bars in Dubai have a happy hour (usually from 5pm to 8pm) and a ladies’ day on Tuesday. A ladies’ day does not mean that men are not allowed, it simply means that female guests get complimentary drinks.

The souks (markets) in Bur Dubai (Textile, Gold and Spice Souk) date back to the early XXth century when Dubai was the trading centre of the whole Gulf Coast. Nowadays the souks in Dubai have become quite touristy — but it is still a chance to get a glimpse and some experience of traditional Dubai lifestyle. And also buy almost everything: from souvenirs to gold, from fresh fish to used cars.
