I had my baby at Medcare Women & Children Hospital, and the birth certificate process was handled by Al Rawda Typing. I applied for the certificate on Thursday, February 27th, and was assured that the “urgent” service (which I paid extra for) would be completed within 4-5 days. However, I only received the original birth certificate on Wednesday, March 12th—far beyond the promised timeframe. This delay significantly impacted our ability to apply for a passport and, in turn, our newborn’s health insurance. To make matters worse, the Al Rawda Typing representative at the hospital misinformed me that the birth certificate required attestation for a UK passport application. This was incorrect, as UK applications only require an English birth certificate without attestation. Despite this, I was charged nearly 800 AED for a process that was unnecessary. Checking the DHA website, I found that obtaining a birth certificate costs only 65 AED, which makes me feel like I was overcharged and misled. The delays and misinformation caused unnecessary stress during an already overwhelming time as new parents. I strongly urge Medcare Women & Children and Al Rawda Typing to improve their transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in handling such essential services.
